GUWAHATI: Murky water and a static water level, despite continuous dewatering, have posed significant challenges to agencies attempting to rescue miners trapped in a rat-hole coal mine in Assam’s Dima Hasao district.

Additionally, four deep divers from the Navy also went inside the flooded shaft to find the trapped miners, the official said.

Efforts to rescue eight labourers trapped in a flooded coal mine in Assam’s Dima Hasao district are on as specialized navy divers work alongside the army and the National Disaster Response Force personnel.

On Monday morning, at least nine workers aged between 26 and 57 were trapped in a coal mine in 3 Kilo, Umrangso, in the hilly district of Dima Hasao.

Kilo Coal Quarry in Umrangso area, around 250 km from Guwahati, after a sudden gush of water flooded the site.

Three workers are confirmed dead in the Assam coal mine disaster. Efforts are on to rescue others trapped, with Army, NDRF, SDRF, and Navy divers involved in the operations.
