Geico, and pension plans of other Berkshire Hathaway units bought nearly $30 million of shares of domain-name registry firm VeriSign.

Despite once calling Apple the "best business" in the world, Buffett sold 100 million shares in the third quarter, cutting Berkshire's stake by 25%. And while Apple still ranked as the company's largest holding as of Sept. 30, Buffett has now sold more than 615 million shares in the last four quarters.

VeriSign is ranked 5th in the S&P 500 for the highest profit margin, at about 56%, tied with Nvidia, according to third-quarter financial data.

Warren Buffett has invested more than $74 million in a Reston company best known for controlling internet domains for organizations across the globe.

Also in the second quarter of this year, Berkshire Hathaway added beauty retailer Ulta Beauty Inc (NASDAQ:ULTA) to its portfolio. However, in the following three months, the fund disposed of almost the entire position by selling 665,903 shares.
