6,200-acre fire now expanding east in the Otay wilderness as nearly 700 firefighters fight back
A wildfire in the hills near the U.S.-Mexico border exploded early Friday morning over thousands of acres, triggering school closures and evacuation orders throughout the Otay Wilderness Area. Wind from the ocean pushed the Border 2 fire east as the day wore on and the evacuation area has expanded to include Dulzura and other rural spots east of Otay Mountain.
