After a judge ruled he didn’t live in the district, a Democratic-Farmer-Labor legislative candidate won’t take the seat he won in the November election. The move will grant Minnesota Republicans at least a temporary majority in the House when the Legislature convenes on Jan. 14.

Republicans gain one-seat majority heading into 2025 session as a DFL-won seat becomes vacant. A special election will come early next year.

Curtis Johnson, a DFLer who defeated his Republican opponent in House District 40B, did not properly establish residence in Roseville, a Ramsey County judge ruled.

The Republican Party will hold a majority in the Minnesota House come session start in January, with a special election pending.
