Even as Congress is taking steps to reinstitute a federal ban on hemp products containing THC, Texas officials are distributing a new hemp law “checklist” list to help businesses comply with recently enacted state cannabis rules—including age-gating to prevent the sale of intoxicating cannabinoid products to youth.
Current federal law allows the sale of hemp-derived THC products if they contain no more than 0.3 percent THC by dry weight. The language in the deal enforces a total THC limit of 0.4 milligrams and effectively prohibits those products for personal or household use.
Among the funding provisions is a ban on almost all THC-containing hemp products nationwide. This comes after a fight on THC products in Texas, and this ban could scuttle an industry that generates $8 billion in Texas each year and employs tens of thousands of people.
According to CBS News, 19-year-old Luke Garrett Resecker was sentenced to 65 years in prison after a crash in Johnson County, Texas, claimed six lives — including two children — and left a passenger with a traumatic brain injury.
Manuel Valenzuela and three others are accused of using THC-laced candy to keep undocumented kids quiet while bringing them across the border.
