A strong earthquake killed more than 100 people in Tibet and left many others trapped in the autonomous region of western China, state media say.

BEIJING: A magnitude 6.8 earthquake rocked the northern foothills of the Himalayas near one of Tibet's holiest cities on Tuesday (Jan 7), Chinese authorities said, killing at least 126 people and flattening hundreds of houses,

Chinese media also reported that as of 10 a.m. local time, multiple aftershocks were recorded, the largest of which was 4.4.

At least 126 people were killed after a strong 7.1 magnitude earthquake hit Western China. The 7.1 magnitude quake affected parts of the Himalayas in the autonomous region of Tibet, resulting in homes reduced to bricks and many people missing under rubble.
