The intense Santa Ana winds and a trio of large wildfires caused power outages for more than 200,000 homes and businesses in Los Angeles County Tuesday night. Ahead of the strong storm, officials predicted this weather will "likely be the most destructive windstorm seen since 2011.

This is the third time in as many months that strong Santa Ana winds have prompted Southern California Edison to cut power to its customers over fire risk.

Intense Santa Ana winds gusting over 70 miles per hour are the major contributing factor to the massive California wildfires ravaging the Los Angeles area, not only exacerbating the deadly fires but driving them toward the Pacific Ocean.

Authorities continued to battle the Palisades and Eaton fires throughout Los Angeles County as lower wind speeds are expected to provide some respite Thursday morning before picking up again in the afternoon, though firefighters were able to lift evacuation orders for a fire that burned through the Hollywood Hills.

The Sunset Fire in the Hollywood Hills follows other blazes in the L.A. area, including the Palisades and Eaton fires, that have displaced tens of thousands.

Nearly 2,000 homes, businesses, and other structures have been destroyed in the Eaton and Palisades fires, and the number is expected to increase. The five deaths recorded so far were from the Eaton Fire.
