Gerrit Cole tuned up for the postseason by holding the Athletics to one run in nine innings and Juan Soto came off the bench to hit an RBI double in the 10th, giving the New York Yankees a 4-2 win in the opener of the final scheduled homestand ever in Oakland.

Juan Soto was originally in the lineup for Friday night's game against the Athletics but was pulled out after reporting soreness and swelling in his left leg. Manager Aaron Boone said X-rays were negative.

The A’s (67-87) began their final homestand at the Oakland Coliseum with an extra-inning 4-2 loss to the Yankees (90-64) as T.J. McFarland allowed three runs (two earned) to the Bronx Bombers in the top of the 10th inning.
