Federal investigators have pulled intact data cards from a state police helicopter and Cessna aircraft that collided near a runway in central Pennsylvania.

Plane crashes receive significant media attention, such as the mid-air collision between an American Airlines plane and a U.S. Army helicopter above the Potomac River in Washington, D.C. in January 2025 that killed all 67 passengers aboard both aircraft and dominated national headlines.

The Federal Aviation Administration has been notified and will investigate the crash further.

Alachua County Sheriff’s Deputies reported a plane crash in Micanopy Tuesday afternoon.

Federal investigators said Thursday all possibilities are open in their probe of Wednesday evening’s fatal mid-air collision at Carlisle Airport. That’s standard practice for his agency, National Transportation Safety Board investigator Aaron McCarter said.
