Amsterdam has banned demonstrations for three days after Israeli soccer fans were beaten and injured in violent clashes in the city overnight, which Dutch authorities condemned Friday as antisemitic.

Police in Amsterdam say they have detained dozens of people taking part in a pro-Palestinian demonstration countering a temporary ban on protests. Officials said hundreds of officers were on duty and had forced the demonstrators from the Dutch capital's central Dam Square into the surrounding streets.

Amsterdam banned demonstrations for three days from Friday after overnight attacks on Israeli soccer supporters by what the mayor called "antisemitic hit-and-run squads", and Israel sent planes to the Netherlands to fly fans home.
