The National Weather Service changed several of its winter weather terms in October 2024. Here is what they new terms mean.

Weather Advisory. An Advisory is issued for less severe winter weather conditions that may still cause inconvenience or minor safety risks. For this storm, lighter snowfall

Parts of east-central Alabama, including the Birmingham metro area, will be under an extreme cold warning, which means that dangerously cold wind chills are expected. Very cold temperatures are possible during the day on Monday as well, with many locations staying below freezing all day.

Heavy snow is expected to blanket large portions of the Eastern U.S. while much of the country will endure dangerously cold temperatures in the coming days

"The level and extensiveness of the frigid air may be tough to match the rest of the winter," forecasters warned.
