The conclave to select the next pope has begun after Catholic cardinals from across the world filed into the Sistine Chapel Wednesday before sealing themselves inside.

This selection comes after two days of conclave in the Sistine Chapel, tying the modern record for the fastest selection of a pope.

Voting in the morning was inconclusive. The conclave will reconvene in the afternoon, with two more votes expected on Thursday, unless a pontiff is chosen in the first round after lunch.
