The New York Jets interviewed interim coach Jeff Ulbrich on Monday for their head coach vacancy. Ulbrich, the team's defensive coordinator the past four seasons, went 3-9 after replacing the fired Robert Saleh on Oct.

The Jets formally interviewed Ulbrich for their opening. Ulbrich was thrown into the role of interim head coach on Oct. 8 after Robert Saleh was fired. The Jets went 3-9 under Ulbrich and finished 5-12 overall. Ulbrich is very popular among the players and in the Jets’ building, but he is considered a long shot to keep the job.

According to NFL reporter Jordan Schultz, New York plans to interview Minnesota Vikings quarterbacks coach Josh McCown for their head coaching job on Friday. McCown has spent the last season in Minnesota coaching up Sam Darnold during his career resurgent year, and before that, he spent a year in Carolina with Bryce Young and the Panthers.

Former head coach Robert Saleh was fired by the team all the way back in October. At the time, New York had a 2-3 record. After turning things over to interim Jeff Ulbrich, it didn’t go much better. The Jets finished the 2024 NFL season at 5-12.

On Oct. 8, after Jets owner Woody Johnson fired Robert Saleh following a 2-3 start, Ulbrich, who was the defensive coordinator, became the team’s interim coach. Johnson hoped Ulbrich would ignite a spark and lead Gang Green to the playoffs. However, Saleh’s firing had the opposite effect.

The Jets interviewed two AFC offensive coordinators for their head-coaching position on Thursday, pushing the number of candidates for the job to 12. And they’re not done yet.
