Anyone hoping for abundant nods to James Gunn’s Superman probably wasn’t fulfilled, but plenty of fun Man of Steel nods were still on display, as well as a particularly stellar “Martha” joke that was all-too-reminiscent of The Penguin ’s finale. Let’s take a quick run through my personal favorite highlights.

In a fourth wall-breaking moment that comes midway through the fifth season of Max’s gloriously irreverent Harley Quinn, the titular troublemaker reflects on her and Poison Ivy’s evolution over the course of the series. “We haven’t really been villains in a while,” she says. “What are we?”

Season 5 of Harley Quinn is exclusive to streaming service Max in the US, with its first episode debuting on Thursday, Jan. 16. New episodes will release every Thursday from then on until the season finale on March 20. Seasons 1-4 of Harley Quinn, plus a Valentine's Day special are already available to watch on demand on the streamer.

Harley Quinn season 5 episodes will be released on Thursdays at 12am PT/3am ET on Max, starting from Thursday 16th January 2025 and ending with the season finale on 20th March. The season is expected to drop one episode per week, in line with earlier runs.

The season 5 premiere of Harley Quinn was great! Harley and Poison Ivy started the season with the normal randomness that made them great and continued with all the jokes and action that made the show popular.
