The Movies at Wellington has closed after serving for over 12 years, citing financial hurdles and competition.

WPTV's Michael Hoffman checked in with the businesses at the Wellington Marketplace to see if it's the area, or just a sign of the times.

The site is one of the largest undeveloped areas along State Road 7 in Palm Beach County's western suburbs. Its future has been an issue for years.

The theater, located 13881 Wellington Trace, said it tried everything it could to keep the movie theater afloat, including looking at upgrades. However, with rising costs and a lack of consistent quality, it feels it's time to stop operations.

WELLINGTON, Fla. (CBS12) — Major changes are coming to Wellington. The village is in the process of selling the 70-acre property, K-Park, to a developer that plans to turn it into the downtown Wellington has never had. Many neighbors are unhappy to see this green space go and say too much development is underway.

The event begins Saturday at 1 p.m. at Palm Beach Autographs in the Mall at Wellington Green and there are charges for the autographs.

The Movies at Wellington, a staple in the Wellington area for more than a decade, closed its doors for the last time Friday.

Sumner Newscow report — The Wellington boys are Chaparral Roadrunner Classic Tournament Champions! The Crusaders defeated Chaparral 58-48 to win its first Chaparral tourney title since 2014. Wellington is on a six-game winning streak and is 8-4 heading into the second stretch of the season.

West Palm Beach-based developer Related Ross plans to bring retail space, dining, a hotel, residences and even a private school along State Road 7 in Wellington. It’s a plan many fully support, like Pastor Brian Atkins at LifeChurch Wellington. He says the project would give people more to do and would stand right next to his church.

AEW Capital Management bought a 424-unit senior living rental complex in Wellington for $100.1 million, marking this year’s first major commercial real estate deal in South Florida.
