The merger of Air India and Vistara was officially completed on Tuesday, November 12, 2024. The newly merged entity will now operate over 5,600 weekly flights and serve more than 90 domestic and international destinations with a fleet of 208 aircraft.

While the integration aims to streamline operations and expand service offerings, one notable aspect of the merger is the continuity of Vistara’s distinctive livery for the time being.

Vistara, India's last remaining full-service airline, has merged with Air India, creating the country's largest carrier. This marks the end of an era for full-service airlines in India, leaving only low-cost carriers.

Post-merger, the experience offered by Vistara will continue for customers who may identify Vistara aircraft by a four-digit Air India code beginning with the digit “2”

Consequent to the merger of Vistara and Air India, Singapore Airlines, which held a 49 per ecnt share in Vistara, becomes a 25.1 per cent shareholder in the resultant Air India group

This merger represents the largest consolidation in Indian aviation since 2006-07, when Indian Airlines merged with Air India, Air Sahara joined Jet Airways, and Air Deccan was incorporated into Kingfisher Airlines.

With two successful mergers of the Air India Group, that is Air India-Vistara and between AIX cConnect and Air India Express in the span of six weeks, the Tata-owned airline group will now have a fleet of 300 planes,
