Ongoing discussions in San Diego about banning rodeos became more urgent Monday when the Padres announced Petco Park will soon host an expanded version of the January 2024 rodeo that sparked the controversy.

Councilmember Kent Lee says he's disappointed to learn another Petco Park rodeo is on the calendar. Back in January, Lee announced that he'd bring forth legislation to ban rodeos in San Diego. That formal opposition may be waning, although not backing off completely.

The San Diego Rodeo is coming back to Petco Park next year. The world’s top rodeo athletes will headline the three-day event, which takes place from Jan. 10- 12, 2025, vying for more than $800,000 in prize money,
