CBS News Chicago went searching for yearly and daily averages for such enforcement actions over the past eight years.

What we do know is that ICE reported 956 arrests nationwide yesterday, the first day of the Chicago operation. That was up from 286 on Jan. 25, 593 on Jan. 24 and 538 on Jan. 23. Presumably, the uptick was driven in part by the Chicago crackdown, but the agency did not specify how many of yesterday's arrests took place locally.
