Ursa minor and ursa major are gigantic magical bears with fur that looks like the night sky, and are partially translucent. The cub is called ursa minor, while the adult is called ursa major.

Ursa Minor are the offspring of Ursa Major and are not yet full grown. It is assumed (but not known as fact) that an Ursa Minor turns into an Ursa Major when full grown.

As seems typical with Ursa's, the Ursa Minor was a generally peaceful being who became violently enraged when disturbed. He attacked Ponyville after being provoked by Snips and Snails.
